PRAISE EFFORT, NOT RESULT

I wanted to write a short post so that coaches of junior players can keep this in mind at their next training session:

"Praise kids for their effort - not the result"

As long as the kids are out there having fun & trying that is the main thing.

When you coach young players (say children aged 5 & up) there can be a large gap in skill level between some players.

So don't ignore the players that haven't grasped the skill or aren't as technically gifted as some others. Encourage all players & if the effort is there say "Well done!" & that player will be motivated to keep coming back next time.

Remember these key points when coaching young kids & you'll enjoy it more & so will they!

  • keep it fun

  • encourage all the players

  • be patient

  • keep them excited about the session
