TOE TAPS
Toe Taps are simply touches on the top of the ball using the sole of the boot. They help improve coordination, improve players quickness of feet and improve their touch on the ball.
How to do Toe Taps:
The player should stand with the ball directly in front of them.
Now they put the sole of one foot on top of the ball while keeping the other one planted on the ground.
Then switch feet so the opposite sole of the foot is on the ball and the other foot is on the ground. Repeat this.
Players should go as slowly as required to start with. Eventually they will be doing it in a fluid motion. Build up so that eventually players will be โbouncingโ (moving one foot as soon as the other touches the top of the ball).
Key points to remember:
Use the bottom of the boot where your toes meet the ball of your foot to tap the ball
Nice and soft (donโt stomp on the ball!)
Find balance and keep the head over the ball
Progression for Toe Taps:
1. SPINNING - Keep the ball in the one spot, but move to the left and right around the ball while doing Toe Taps (ie the body will move but the ball stays stationary).
2. FORWARD AND BACKWARDS - With the sole of the feet, players softly push the ball forward for a few touches. Then softly pull the ball backwards with the sole of the feet.
3. FIGURE 8 - Place two cones approximately 3 metres apart. Now moving forward (or backwards) do Toe Taps in a figure 8 shape around the cones.
