There are some key things to remember when coaching young kids (5-10 year olds) soccer. Be patient, encourage and be enthusiastic are some of them. And another key thing to try to implement into your training sessions is...
"EACH CHILD SHOULD HAVE A BALL AT THEIR FEET FOR MOST ACTIVITIES!"
I know this isn't possible for every drill but it is essential if you want your children to develop better skills. You don't want a line of 12 kids waiting to have one pass or shot at goal. Instead have them dribbling through cones and then have a shot at the end (this way they are getting lots more touches on the ball plus they won't get bored while standing in line).
Try to play games/activities such as "GATES", "TRAFFIC LIGHTS" & "SIMON SAYS" - all these games have each player with a ball at their feet & use the basics of dribbling, passing & shooting.
Oh & if you're after these & other great drills for kids I know a perfect book to help you on your way 😉 👇
Happy coaching!
